Renovation in the Lowlands

After getting back from Scotland, I went to Antwerp to see my cousin Luk and his Holly and their new son Gideon. They are in the process of renovating a house that they have bought in Ghent about 45 minutes west of Antwerp. The house has some interesting features including a kitchen island that more closely resembles some kind of anti-tank barrier. The double brick wall box was filled with rubble from a previous reno project and capped with a counter top. So we set about removing one side of the box and the rubble from inside. The fun part was carrying the rubble in buckets out to the street because the disposal service can't get into the courtyard in front of the house. Eventually we moved it all out, about a cubic metre, so that they can put kitchen cabinets in the space.
