The straight goods

I have been thinking about how to tell you what I have been doing here without violating anybody's privacy. I think for that reason I can't post any pictures of people or tell you their real names. I hope that's ok.
I have been meeting with about 6 people on a regular basis. Most of the people that I meet with are students. At the moment they have a semester break and so very often they are out of town, or have gone home to visit their folks.
Most of my meetings with people have been about 30 minutes to 2 hours in length. Often I meet people at a cafe and we sit and talk. But there have also been occaisions where I have gone on a tour of the city or even gone ice skating; talking as we go round and round the rink.
Lots of the people are very good at speaking English, they have been former contacts through the LST program. For this reason, I haven't used the LST material as much as I have simply asked open questions and asked about their thoughts on what they had experienced. I find that this straight forward approach has a few advantages. Primarily, I make it clear that I am interested in sharing about God with them and thankfully that works. Its really made me think if we've gone about sharing God with people the right way. Of course, its only been 7 weeks.

I know I'm out of date by commenting this kate on your blog, but I liked what you said.
The more direct I have gotten with my readers, the better everything has gone. Why beat around the bush. Just be up front and let them be the same.

I agree, direct and completely honest is the only way to go. How could we as Christians be anything else?
Using a certain program (the name of which I won't mention, but you know what I'm talking about), I was once advised not to tell people it has anything to do with the Bible when they call me and ask questions. I kept quiet about it *one time* when someone called, but I felt so guilty about it that I never did it again. I decided that I wasn't going to hide what I'm doing here. Or make excuses for God's Word.
And guess what happened? People still came, even though I was completely honest about God's involvement in the whole deal.
Hmmm.

Good post, Joel. :o)
